Praise for Worth Her Weight

This book is a hidden gem—one of those reads that is not easy to forget and will hit the reader in the heart at certain points. There is an immediate connection with and sympathy for Lacey and the feeling of wanting her to succeed in everything she puts her effort to. It's one of those books that will have the reader screaming at the top of their lungs in the hopes that the characters can hear.
Moving at an even pace, it has a great little mystery in it too, and a male character that isn't seen all too often—he's a normal everyday guy doing his job which is refreshing. This book is an emotional roller coaster that will stay with the reader for a long while after it's read!
      ~ Lynn-Alexandria McKendrick, InD'tale Magazine

An inspirational and relatable story
Lacey Chandler has always been there for everyone else. However, she believes she is unworthy of love due to her weight issues. She cares for her mother, Betty, who is handicapped. Betty feels useless and often takes it out on Lacey. Her sister and niece come to stay, and Lacey soon finds herself caring for them as well. Local police chief Toby Wheeler has been fond of Lacey for years. He hates that she views herself in such a negative light. He hopes to use his faith to show her that she means more to him, and God, then just a number on the scale.
Millions of people struggle with weight issues, particularly using food for emotional healing. Lacey is one of the most relatable characters I have encountered in some time. Her longing for love and acceptance, as well as her spiritual growth journey, is realistic and identifiable. There are a number of heartbreaking scenes as Lacey tries to learn to love herself.

Appropriate Bible verses are interspersed throughout the story, reminding the reader of God's faithfulness. The characters also demonstrate that hurting people hurt people, which is a good reminder for everyone. Overall, this is an inspirational story, which even includes a few recipes. This book is the perfect companion to Brown's devotional, Divine Dining: 365 Devotions to Guide You to Healthier Weight and Abundant Wellness.

An inspirational story of hope and transformation
Though not Janet Brown's first book, it is her debut inspirational woman's fiction and what emerges within these pages can be summed up in one word - transformation. Lead character Lacey Chandler finds herself struggling emotionally and relies upon comfort foods to help alleviate the pain. Her mother's favoritism, with unemotional concern and hurting words toward her would lead her into deeper despair. "Sometimes she hated her mother. As the guilt of those thoughts caused perspiration, she crammed in more candy".
Toby Wheeler, a Christian policeman and friend of Lacey's since high school, will long to help her and often finds himself praying for her. A vicious cycle of eating and regret, being already overweight with a low self-esteem, will spiral her into suicide thoughts. It wasn't until Lacey attends a life recovery biblically-based group that will replace food and give her peace. Additionally, terror would strike at home as Rachel gets kidnapped and Toby works tirelessly on this case.
As you discover the outcome you will find the miracle working power of God that delights to show himself strong as we exchange our strength for His. It is a lesson on restoration and transformation that begins with a heart leaning on His all sufficiency. Perhaps you struggle with unforgiveness and/or cannot comprehend how people or situations will ever change in your life. Allow this inspiring work to strengthen your faith and hope in God that can cause all things to work for the good to those that love Him.
I recommend this book and it would also make a great gift to those that need to learn to lean on the Lord in all the affairs of life.

The book was great! And true to the way a food addict deals with their struggles. I know first-hand. Love the book.

In her women's fiction work, Worth Her Weight, author Janet K. Brown carries her readers on Lacey's journey of struggle, failure, heartbreak and redemption. She explores her character's food addiction with the knowledge of someone who has taken on the challenge herself and won. Fear, low self-esteem, and faith are well defined throughout the story.
The novel delivers a Christian message for victims of food addiction without being preachy. The book also chronicles the often dependent, demanding attitude of an elderly parent toward a child in the role of caregiver.
I would recommend this novel to any reader who enjoys books that deal with real life issues and includes the element of sweet romance told from a Christian worldview.
      ~ Patti Shene

A wonderful story! Lacey Chandler is like many of us—overweight, unhealthy and trying to juggle too many demands. Janet Brown really gets into the emotions and thoughts of her characters. The story is well-thought out and believable with a satisfying ending.

Lacey Chandler is trapped in an overweight body. She knows she should make a conscious effort to shed some pounds, but how can she when her life is fraught with stress? Her bitter, disabled mother, her demanding, irresponsible boss, and now her drug-addicted sister who dumps her child on Lacey, all sap Lacey's energy without giving anything back.       Caught in a spiral of self-destruction, Lacey begins to fight her way out. Her long time friend, Toby Wheeler, encourages her and helps her find strength in God. Yet, even Toby adds to Lacey's escalating stress level when she realizes she views him as more than just a friend. No way would the handsome, successful police detective, soon to be Chief of Police, seek more than friendship from Lacey.

Even Janet was surprised that she had a penchant for teens and ghosts when she released her debut novel, an inspirational young adult, Victoria and the Ghost, in July 2012. She's been writing ever since. She uses her platform of recovering compulsive overeater to weave stories of hope for addiction, compulsion, or impossible situations, with an occasional detour into the paranormal.
Worth Her Weight, a work of inspirational women's fiction, is the first in the Wharton Rock Series, followed by Worth Forgiving (2016). The third installment in the series is due out in 2017. She also penned an in-depth devotional for healthy living titled Divine Dining: 365 Devotions to Guide You to Healthier Weight and Abundant Wellness (2012). An accompanying workbook is due out by the end of 2016.
Janet and her husband, Charles, love to travel with their RV, work in their church, and visit their daughters' families. When not traveling, they live in Wichita Falls, Texas, where she teaches workshops on writing, weight loss, and the historical settings of her teen books.
