Who is Amy Hale Auker? A 2012 Willa Award-winner, Amy is a genuine, working cowgirl who also happens to be one of the finest writers you'll ever have the pleasure of reading.

As a girl, she sat with her dad in coffee shops and feed stores, and listening to livestock men cuss the weather, examine cattle prices, and make deals. She held the halter rope while he shod the remudas of large ranches as well as reset the shoes on people's family pets. She begged to go when he trotted off into desert mornings with crews of men on horseback.

And she dreamed of living on a cow camp, of the kind of ranch romance that Texas rancher Tom Moorhouse talks about with his drawling, twanging long a sounds. She married a cowboy when she was nineteen.

For years she cooked for cowboys, cleaned up after cowboys, listened to cowboys tell stories, but for the past several years she has done her own time in the saddle. And she writes. Always she writes.

What does that mean for you? It means you can visit the people she loves, people who live and thrive on a ranch where they can have a love affair with rock, mountains, piņon and juniper forests, the weather. Come, visit their world. Come to Winter of Beauty.
